Remembering David Malouf
We are sad to announce the death of David Malouf, who passed away peacefully on 22nd April 2026, aged 92.
Born in Brisbane in 1934, David Malouf was a deeply influential writer whose work spanned novels, poetry, essays and opera. David won numerous prizes for his work, including the Miles Franklin Award, Commonwealth Writers’ prize, the Prix Femina Etranger, IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, Australia-Asia Literary Award, and his novel Remembering Babylon was shortlisted for the 1993 Booker Prize. Much of Malouf’s writing focused on memory and the past – his own childhood, on great myths, and on colonial Australia.
