Holly Williams grew up in Wales. She has a degree and a masters in English from York University. After working as a reporter for The Brecon and Radnor Express, she went to London for a fortnight’s work experience at The Independent – and stayed there for six years, eventually becoming lead staff writer for the Independent on Sunday's magazine and arts sections. Since becoming a freelancer, she's written for many publications including The New York Times, The FT, The Telegraph, The i newspaper, ELLE, and the BBC, as well as returning to The Independent to edit its arts section. She is currently a theatre critic for Time Out and The Mail on Sunday, and a book reviewer for The Observer and The TLS. Holly is also an associate for script-reading service Rough Hewn, offering dramaturgical support to playwrights. She is currently working on her first novel, and lives in Sheffield.
