David Arrowsmith

David Arrowsmith was born in London in 1979, to a British father and Colombian mother. Aged 19 he spent a year living in Hong Kong before a decade in Manchester saw him gain a First Class BA (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Manchester, embark on what would become a 20+ year career in documentary television – working at the BBC and Granada Television amongst others - and obtain an MA in Script Writing from The University of Salford. Returning to London he spent nearly 15 years working for the likes of October Films, Channel 5, ITN Productions, Darlow Smithson Productions (DSP) and Oxford Scientific Films (OSF).

A passionate storyteller, he is particularly interested in history, as evidenced by just some of his key documentary commissions including ‘1966: Who Stole the World Cup?’, ‘Britain’s Bloodiest Dynasty’, ‘Britain’s Bloody Crown’, ‘Witch Hunt: A Century of Murder’, ‘Cleopatra: Mother, Mistress, Murderer, Queen’, ‘8 Days That Made Rome’, and ‘Adolf & Eva: Love & War’. He was also involved in the development of the award-winning, Nobel Peace Prize-nominated documentary ‘Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields’.

In 2023 he left behind his career in TV to write full time. An author of both narrative non-fiction and fiction, his most recent book Narcoball: Love, Death and Football in Escobar’s Colombia was published by Cassell in 2024. He lives in Hove with his family and is currently writing his next narrative non-fiction book and developing his next novel.
