Newest member of the Gruffalo family announced

Gruffalo Granny has been revealed as the title of the third book in the best-selling series by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

The picture book will be published by Macmillan on 10th September 2026 and comes 22 years after the release of The Gruffalo’s Child. To celebrate the announcement, a never-seen-before illustration of Granny was projected onto the British Library in London and Michell Library in Glasgow.

Donaldson said: "I actually had the basic idea for the story a long time ago, but couldn’t think how to develop it. It was only when the National Literacy Trust, whose work I’m very impressed by, used the first two books as part of their Early Words Matter programme that I was spurred on to get my idea out of the cupboard and see once and for all if I could turn it into a really satisfying story."

The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child have combined sales of 18.2 million and the books have sold in 115 languages and dialects.
