Zhang Yueran

Biography

Zhang Yueran is the author of five novels and two short story collections. Her novel COCOON has been translated into twelve languages. It won the Best Asian Novel of the Prix Transfuge 2019 in France, was shortlisted for the Yasnaya Polyana Literary Award in Russia in 2023, and its English edition, translated by Jeremy Tiang, was shortlisted for the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation 2023 and named one of the New Yorker's Best Books of the Year. Her most recent novel, WOMEN, SEATED, also translated by Jeremy Tiang, was published by Riverhead in 2025. Unseen Sister, a film based on her novella, premiered in Competition at the Tokyo International Film Festival in 2024. She teaches creative writing at Renmin University of China and lives in Beijing.
