Melissa Hawkes

Biography

Melissa Hawkes is a British author who grew up in the foster care system from the age of nine. She writes adventurous, emotional fantasy loosely inspired by her childhood experiences. Her core motto is the well-known saying, ‘my past does not define my future,’ and she hopes to inspire young people with difficult upbringings to chase their dreams, much like she has. Because when the world labels us and tells us we can’t do something…we prove them wrong.

Melissa grew up watching her biological siblings immerse themselves in fantastical worlds and stories they created, and soon fell in love with writing too. She has a wild imagination and always felt it exciting to conjure up a story, usually involving magic and some terrifying creature or beast. Earlier pieces of work also included Queens and Kings (because obviously?)

She currently resides in Oxfordshire and enjoys a breezy Cotswolds walk. She dabbles in ceramic painting and other crafts, home décor, a good board game (and is highly competitive), and, of course, all things books, whether that’s reading them, buying them, or talking about them.
