Mark Millar

Biography

Mark Millar is a New York Times best-selling writer and Hollywood producer, making history when he and his wife Lucy sold their Millarworld production house to Netflix in 2017, the studio's first ever company acquisition. In his time at Marvel, his books were adapted into several blockbuster movies, including Captain America: Civil War and Logan. Screenwriter Zak Penn credited Millar's revamp of The Avengers as the basis of his 2012 Avengers movie and the backbone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, right down to the casting of Samuel L Jackson. At DC Comics in New York, he wrote the legendary Superman graphic novel, Superman: Red Son. His Civil War book remains Marvel’s highest-selling graphic novel of all time.

At his own Millarworld company, Mark created 17 new franchises, creating 14 more in-house at Netflix for the studio’s long term library. Adaptations of these books include the Kingsman movies, Kick-Ass, Wanted, American Jesus, Jupiter’s Legacy and the Japanese anime series Supercrooks. He has been an executive producer on every adaptation and worked for four years as a creative consultant at 20th Century Fox in Los Angeles on their Marvel slate of movies. He maintains his relationship with Netflix, with two new Netflix movie adaptations in pre-production. He is also working with his friend and collaborator Matthew Vaughn on a new movie and two new theatrical productions with producer Peter Rice.
