Lucy Cousins
Biography
Lucy Cousins was born in 1964 and grew up in a very creative family in Kent. She always wanted to be an artist and studied graphic design at Brighton Polytechnic, then for an MA at The Royal College of Art, where she created her first picture book for children. While still at the RCA, Lucy wanted to make a book with flaps and tabs. After drawing many different animals, she drew a small mouse and feltimmediately that this was the character for her book. The first Maisy book was published in 1990 and since then there have been over 200 Maisy books, which have been translated into many languages. My Friend Maisy is a new TV series, due to be broadcast on SKY in 2026.
Lucy has also created many other books for children, including Jazzy in the Jungle, Hooray for Fish, A Busy Day for Birds, Splish, Splash Ducky and A Good Place. Her books have won several major awards.
Lucy lives in the countryside in Hampshire with her partner. They have four children. She loves walking and playing tennis, reading and being with family.
