Jenna Tang

Biography

Jenna Tang was born and raised from a Hakka family in Taiwan and is a Taiwanese writer and translator who translates between Hakka, Mandarin, French, Spanish, and English. She graduated from MFA in Fiction Creative Writing from The New School in New York City. Her translations and essays are published in The Paris Review, Lit Hub, Restless Books, Latin American Literature Today, AAWW, McSweeney’s, Catapult, Fare Magazine, and elsewhere. Her interviews can be found at World Literature Today, The Sunrise Times, Okapi, Openbook, and Words Without Borders. Her translations include works from Taiwanese feminist authors, including Lin Yi-Han's novel, Fang Si-Chi’s First Love Paradise, Lâu Tsí-û's short story, “Not Your Child,” works from Leah Yang, and more. She also translates graphic novels from Taiwan and is focusing on translating more literary works in Hakka, a dialect that is her first language. She has given talks about translation, languages, and gender movements across 22 universities in the United States, Canada, China, and Taiwan. She is currently based in Taoyuan, Taiwan.
